New 2D Mario coming to 3DS!!!
During its latest investors meeting Nintendo let loose an interesting bit of information, Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo mentioned that a New 2D Mario game will be coming to the 3DS during its next fiscal year. (April 2012 through March 2013) Other then this nothing else was revealed about the title, but a new Mario is always BIG news and especially since it's going back to just 2D.
I'm surprised it may even be released as early as this year considering that Super Mario 3D land was released November 2011. If anything I would have expected an announcement for a new Mario Wii-U game before a new 3DS one, still more Mario is always a good thing so why should I complain? If I had to guess what it could be, if it is a 2D only title it could possibly be a continuation on the New Super Mario bros. series? maybe they moved the Wii-U demo of New Super Mario bros. Mii over to the 3DS? How about Super Mario World 3DS? Or maybe something completely new? We can most likely expect more details at E3 if it expected to release within 2012 or early 2013.
Quick Question: would you have preferred a new 3D Mario on the 3DS? More like Mario 64 or Galaxy? Or should they be kept to consoles and 2D Mario kept on Handhelds?

I think that a new 3D Mario on the 3ds released this soon to Super Mario 3D Land would not be the best. It would be like COD as in releasing an almost identical game every year but with new levels. I like that it's a 2D game so it switches it up game-play wise.

I like that it's 2D altough it's mario, it doesn't matter. I would've loved if it reminded of Super Mario World with the level designs and gameplay. Bring back the Spin Jump (R-button)!

I'm glad the new Mario is going to be 2D! For me when it comes to Mario 2D>3D. Even though 3D Land is one of my favorites.

I'm kinda surprised to hear they are going 2D, considering how well done the first 3DS title has done. I'm still all for this though and the sooner the better, especially if its as awesome as SML3D, just in 2D form.
